In New Caney, Texas, one small shop is redefining what it means to shop local, offering unique, affordable vintage treasures while empowering women entrepreneurs.
On a quiet street in New Caney, a nondescript metal building holds a world of discovery. Inside, the air is filled with the scent of aged wood, softly polished metals, and the faint hint of candle wax from handmade decor.
Shelves and tables display carefully curated vintage furniture, quirky knickknacks, and handcrafted items that feel as though they each carry their own story.
This is J&CO Vintage Market, a destination for women seeking to make their homes as unique as they are.
“For me, it was about creating a space where everyone could find something they love without breaking the bank,” said Christi O’Farrell, founder and owner of J&CO Vintage Market. “I wanted to bring affordable vintage, upcycled, and unique home decor to our community and give other women a place to sell their creations too.”
From a Booth to a Full Shop
Christi’s journey began simply: she had intended to secure a booth at an antique mall. But when those opportunities proved scarce, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
“I realized if I wanted to make this happen, I needed to open my own shop,” she said. “It was scary at first, but I knew it was the only way to do it right.”
The early days were a balancing act. While sourcing unique pieces and coordinating her own offerings, Christi was also managing her long career in the veterinary industry, first in clinics, then in sales. She juggled two jobs for three years before taking the leap to run the shop full time.
A turning point came in 2024, when she expanded the store to include vendors, bringing in seven talented women with distinct products. Their work ranges from handcrafted home decor to vintage furniture finds, collectively creating a space that is both eclectic and cohesive.
“Supporting these women is huge,” Christi said. “Some of them rely entirely on what they sell here, and that’s powerful.”
Affordable Treasures, Thoughtful Curation
J&CO Vintage Market is more than a store, it’s a carefully curated experience. Its offerings cater primarily to women seeking home decor that stands out, yet there’s even a section dedicated to “man cave” items for those looking to balance the aesthetic.
What sets the shop apart is its commitment to affordability. Every piece, whether vintage or handmade, is priced so that any visitor can walk away with something they love.
“Small businesses thrive when the community shops small,” Christi said. “When you support us, you’re paying bills, helping families, and encouraging entrepreneurship.”
The shop’s charm is also in its physical experience. From the moment customers walk through the metal doors, the small space bursts with energy, color, and inspiration, a reminder that creativity isn’t measured by square footage.

Challenges and Growth
The vintage retail world is not without its hurdles. Over the past year, rising thrift store prices have made sourcing affordable pieces increasingly challenging. Yet Christi meets each challenge with persistence and creativity.
“It’s all about keeping going, promoting, and believing in your vision,” she said. “Slow times are tough, but the community finds you if you keep showing up.”
Since opening in 2023, J&CO Vintage Market has evolved into a beloved local hub, a place where shoppers know they’ll find something unique and vendors know they have a dependable platform to sell their work.
Looking Ahead
O’Farrell’s vision extends beyond her current space. Her dream is to find a larger location or even open a second shop, providing more opportunities for women to showcase their work while making the store’s signature affordable vintage offerings accessible to an even wider audience.
“It’s not just about the decor, it’s about building a community,” she said. “We want people to come here, enjoy the experience, and leave with something special for their home.”
An Invitation to Discover
For those seeking to shop differently, J&CO Vintage Market offers an invitation: follow the shop on Facebook, explore their latest finds, and step inside the doors to experience the magic firsthand.
“People walk in expecting a small, ordinary space,” Christi said with a smile. “But when they see what’s inside, they’re always delighted. That’s the joy of what we do, and it’s just getting started.”
