In a growing corner of Montgomery County, a mother’s dream, born between nap times and late nights, has become a boutique redefining how families dress their children for life’s most meaningful moments.

On a warm afternoon in Conroe, Texas, a cozy retail space tucked inside Top This Party Co. Racks of carefully curated children’s clothing, delicate hand-smocked dresses, crisp cotton sets, and thoughtfully neutral ensembles, invite visitors to slow down, touch the fabrics, and imagine the moments these pieces will accompany: birthdays, first holidays, family portraits.

Behind it all is Bree Olivares, founder of Little Pookie Kids Co., who has turned a deeply personal vision into a growing local business that blends style, sentiment and community connection.

“I always knew I wanted to build something of my own,” Bree said. “But it wasn’t until I had my children that I really understood what I wanted that to look like.”

A Dream Rooted in Family

Entrepreneurship, for Bree, was less a career choice and more a lifelong influence. Raised in a family that owned and operated small businesses, she spent her childhood watching firsthand what it meant to create something from the ground up.

After earning her degree from Sam Houston State University, she stepped into the corporate world, later launching a small Etsy-based T-shirt shop she still runs today. But it was the transition into motherhood particularly after the birth of her second child in late 2023, that became the catalyst for something bigger.

Like many stay-at-home mothers, Bree found herself navigating a complex emotional shift.

“There’s this moment where you realize you’ve poured so much into your family, and you start to wonder where you fit in as an individual,” she said. “I felt that pull to create again, to build something that was mine.”

That pull became Little Pookie Kids Co., a name inspired by her son, whom she affectionately calls “Pookie.” The nickname, simple and deeply personal, became the foundation of a brand rooted in love, identity and legacy.

“I wanted to create something my kids could one day be proud of, maybe even take on themselves,” she said.

Filling a Gap in the Market

The idea for a children’s boutique had been quietly forming for years. When her son was born, Bree struggled to find clothing that matched her vision, particularly for boys.

“I wanted something beyond dinosaurs and cars,” she said. “Something timeless, something special.”

That gap became her opportunity.

Little Pookie Kids Co. offers clothing and accessories for children from newborn through age 10 or 12, with options for boys, girls and gender-neutral styles. The boutique also features “mommy and me” pieces, with plans to expand into “daddy and me” and tween collections in the near future.

What sets the store apart is its commitment to quality and intentional sourcing. Many items are made from 100 percent Pima cotton or organic materials, with hand-stitched details, embroidery and traditional smocking techniques.

“My rule is simple,” Bree said. “If I wouldn’t put my own children in it, I won’t carry it.”

She also prioritizes partnerships with other small, often mama-owned businesses, creating a ripple effect of support within the broader entrepreneurial community.

From Pop-Ups to a Permanent Home

Little Pookie Kids Co. officially made its first sale in November 2024, starting with limited inventory and a presence at local pop-up markets.

Those early days were equal parts exhilarating and exhausting.

“Balancing a business while raising two young children, it’s a juggling act,” Bree said. “Some days you feel like you’ve got it figured out, and then life throws you a curveball.”

Still, she persisted, adapting as she went. Over time, the boutique expanded its offerings to include hats for both children and adults, jewelry, sibling matching sets and accessories for the whole family.

Now, less than two years later, the business is preparing for a significant milestone: a brick-and-mortar presence in Conroe.

Located at 12621 FM 105 W., Suite 106, inside Top This Party Co., the boutique has its own dedicated space, an intimate setting designed to reflect the warmth and care behind the brand.

“It feels surreal,” Bree said. “To go from an idea to this, it’s everything I hoped for.”

More Than Just a Store

For many customers, Little Pookie Kids Co. represents more than a place to shop. It offers something increasingly rare in a digital-first world: a tactile, personal retail experience.

“People want to touch, feel, and try things on,” Bree said. “There’s something special about picking out an outfit for a milestone moment.”

That connection is especially evident at local events, where customers often share their frustrations, and gratitude.

“I hear it all the time,” she said. “Moms and grandmas telling me how hard it is to find boys’ clothing they love, or coordinated outfits for siblings. When they find something here, it means something.”

The boutique’s tagline,“dress up their adventures”, captures that spirit, positioning each item as part of a larger story.

Whether it’s a birthday celebration, a holiday gathering or a pregnancy announcement, the clothing becomes part of the memory.

Building Community, One Outfit at a Time

Bree has leaned into collaboration as a cornerstone of her business model. The boutique’s upcoming soft opening on April 12 is a reflection of that..

The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature partnerships with several local businesses.

“It’s not just about opening a store,” she said. “It’s about creating something people can be part of.”

That sense of belonging extends beyond events. Through social media and in-person interactions, Bree has cultivated a loyal following that actively supports her growth.

“The community has been incredible,” she said. “Every share, every visit, every purchase, it all matters.”

Looking Ahead

As Little Pookie Kids Co. continues to grow, Bree is already thinking about the future. Plans include expanding product lines and potentially opening additional locations throughout Montgomery County.

But growth, she said, will be intentional.

“I want to stay true to what makes us special,” she said. “That quality, that connection, that’s what people come back for.”

At its core, the boutique remains a reflection of its founder: thoughtful, driven and deeply rooted in family.

For Bree, success isn’t just measured in sales or square footage. It’s found in the quiet, meaningful moments, watching a child twirl in a new outfit, seeing a family coordinate for a milestone photo, or hearing a customer say, “I’m so glad you’re here.”

Those moments, like the clothing she curates, are stitched together with care.

And in a small but growing space in Conroe, they’re becoming part of something lasting.
